                  TEDxYerevan 2011

The second TEDx event in Armenia will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2011 in TUMO Center for Creative Technologies.  Encouraged by the success of the inaugural TEDxYerevan event, “Beyond Borders” – held in the Fall of 2010 –TED has licensed the second TEDxYerevan for 2011.  Entitled TEDxYerevan “Becoming Young”, the theme for this year’s conference will focus on understanding youth, maturity, transitions, individual, institutional and national. A special session entitled “Twenty” for most creative thinkers will sum up the conference.

Ideas for TEDx Talks as well as nominations or suggestions for potential speakers are being accepted. “We encourage you to be bold, both in the topics of your abstracts as well as your suggestions for individuals who you believe would make a great TEDx Talk,” said Kristine Sargsyan, TEDxYerevan team member.

“As we witnessed last year, the excitement that TEDxYerevan generated was great among the influential and innovative generation of thinkers and doers in Armenia.  It is great to have once again received the nod from TED to organize another inspiring conference – one that is sure to impact our world for the better,” said Sargsyan, who is also the TEDx licensee.

TEDxYerevan 2010 featured seventeen speakers, including Serj Tankian via videotape, and received the support of nearly a dozen sponsors, all of whom offered their support to TEDxYerevan, entirely on faith in the idea. These sponsors – Synopsys Armenia, the Ani Hotel, Agrian, Tufenkian Carpets, Autograph Studio, Deem Communications, 365 Wines, Winar, the Oregano Restaurant – as well as over a dozen individuals, made possible the creation of a new sort of collegial environment.

Partnering once more with the Civilitas Foundation, TEDxYerevan 2011 will again seek to gather young, energetic and interesting English-speakers from throughout Armenia, the region and the entire world, to bring their innovative approaches and inspiring talks to the 300 participants who will be invited to participate in TEDxYerevan 2011.

“The Civilitas Foundation is most pleased to partner with the TEDxYerevan team once more and bring its substantial resources to the success of this year’s gathering entitled “Becoming Young”, stated Salpi Ghazarian, Director of the Civilitas Foundation, adding “We share with TED a commitment to continue to create an environment which fosters creative and bold thinking.”

In the spirit of "Ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. This event is called TEDxYerevan 2011, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxYerevan 2011, TED Talks, video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including this one in Yerevan, are self-organized.
