Adam Pervez, a Story of a Happy Nomad

Adam Pervez, a Story of a Happy Nomad

Adam Pervez at TEDxYerevan 2013

Have you ever heard about a happiness equation? According to researchers at University College London it looks like that:

Robb Rutledge, UCL

Scary enough, isn’t it? But even if you have never seen this equation for many people for some reason it is too frightening or too difficult or too ________ (choose your own adjective) to pursue their happiness. Nevertheless happiness seems to continually come up as a topic for conversations as there is nothing we crave more. TED and TEDx are not the exception. There are a great number of TED/TEDx speakers who turn to discussions of happiness. But before getting to speak about happiness it would be good to define the term. The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines happiness as 1) a state of well-being and contentment 2) a pleasurable or satisfying experience. But if we go back in history to the etymology of the

Meet our Birthright Armenia intern

Meet our Birthright Armenia intern

Our intern Rachel Townzen at TEDxKids@Yerevan

I’ll never forget the day my hundred-year-old Armenian grandmother told me there was a show she wanted to watch because she likes to know what Armenians are up to. I cringed, hoping she would forget all about this before she’d have a chance to keep up with the Kardashians. There have been countless times in my months in Yerevan as a Birthright Armenia volunteer that I’ve wished my grandma were still alive, but I especially wish I could show her TEDxYerevan and the talks that have educated me about the awesome things Armenians are up to. I know she would have loved it as much as I do.

When I applied for Birthright, I had two major questions: What makes me Armenian besides the genocide, and what does it mean to be Armenian today? In my essay, I wrote: “I want to bridge my …

“Imagine” re-imagined by Armenian children

“Imagine” re-imagined by Armenian children

True vision originates far more from the heart than the eyes, just as music is something that can be felt with the soul as much as heard with ears. At TED-Ed club, visionaries from around the world inspire us, but we are particularly drawn to the young ones who truly hold the future in their hands.

We recently invited TEDxKids@Yerevan speakers and TED-Ed club members to contribute to UNICEF’s ongoing ‪#‎IMAGINE‬ project, an “initiative uniting millions of people to raise awareness and funds for children’s rights globally.”1 UNICEF, in partnership with Yoko Ono and David Guetta, asked people from around the world to record their own version of John Lennon’s classic song and submit their videos using a digital app. Kristine Sargsyan facilitated workshops and composer and musician Gisane Palyan helped 25 young Armenians became temporary singer-songwriters as we accepted UNICEF’s invitation to this global sing-along.

The participants were divided …

TEDxKids@Yerevan coming soon!

On 23 June, TEDxKids@Yerevan will be held at Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, featuring 23 speakers from Yerevan and the marzes, ages 8 through 18, as well as other performances.

We asked speakers to share their ideas about the imagined world in which they’d like to live. The speakers have dreamt up a broad range of topics, from volunteering, military service, public perceptions of people with disabilities, dreams, and more. Mary will discuss the brain and why it’s important to study; Stephanie will examine what parents don’t know about their kids; Levon will explore the topic lying, why we do it, and if we really need to lie at all. Some talks are geared towards youth in particular: how kids can develop their savings, the issue of domestic violence towards children, and the importance of ecology and the environment for Armenian youth. There will even be a talk about ice …
